Entering the Ministry of Justice in July 2020, Éric Dupond-Moretti was suspected of having taken advantage of his mandate to settle scores with several magistrates with whom he had quarreled when he was a lawyer.
In its highly anticipated decision, delivered this Wednesday, the Court of Justice of the Republic – dedicated to the judgment of members or former members of the government – considered that “at no time” had the minister “expressed (…) animosity, contempt or a desire for revenge” towards these four magistrates.
After the Court’s decision, LFI deputies called, in a press release, to remove this jurisdiction, contesting its verdict.
The minister was playing his position, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne having ruled out in October the possibility that he would remain in the government in the event of conviction. The head of the executive had mentioned a “clear rule” already “applied”, in reference to Minister Alain Griset who resigned in 2021 after his conviction.
