Report in Iran: The US rejected three demands of Tehran in the nuclear deal

by time news

The media in Iran reported today (Sunday) that the United States rejected three key demands of Tehran in the nuclear deal. According to the report, published in the government-controlled newspaper Jomhuriyeh Eslami, parts of the American response were leaked to the local media.

The newspaper emphasized that if indeed the leaked text reflects the American response, then 16 months of negotiation talks have once again reached an impasse and there will be no signing ceremony soon.

According to the report, the Biden administration rejected an Iranian demand to ensure that Western companies do business with Tehran. The alleged American response claimed that the US would allow all companies, except those under sanctions, to work with Iran, but it could not force private companies to interact with the Islamic Republic.

The second demand that was rejected is for the US to guarantee multinational companies that will do business with Iran after the agreement. Washington responded that this is beyond the powers of the president, and Biden can only give his official promises as long as he serves as president and not beyond that.

The third Iranian demand allegedly rejected is related to SWIFT, the international bank transfer system. Iran has lost the possibility of using the mechanism since 2018 when the US withdrew from the agreement. The US in its response said that Washington could not guarantee Iran’s return to SWIFT, as it had not accepted financial reforms required by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
