Republican Party to Majority in House of Representatives – US Election

by time news

Washington ∙ As the US midterm elections are being counted, the Republican Party is closing in on a majority in the House of Representatives. Who controls the Senate remains unclear. In the 435-member House of Representatives, the Republican Party has secured victory in 210 seats. If we get 8 more seats it becomes majority. Currently, President Joe Biden’s Democratic Party holds the majority in the House. The outcome of the 33 seats where the counting of votes is still ongoing is unpredictable.

The two sides are tied in key Senate races in Nevada and Arizona. The final result may be by this evening. A runoff for the Georgia Senate seat could be held on December 6 if no one wins 50% of the vote. Currently, both sides have equal seats in the Senate.

Even with a slim majority in the House of Representatives, Republicans can control policy decisions for the remaining 2 years of Biden’s tenure. It is indicated that Republican Kevin McCarthy will compete for the position of Speaker. White House sources said Biden had a phone conversation with McCarthy. The president has also stated that he will cooperate with the Republican side.
