Mithaliraj, captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, has responded to his retirement decision.
The Women’s Cricket World Cup is being held in New Zealand. The Indian women’s team, led by Mithali Raj, faced South Africa in the last league match of the series yesterday. The Indian team was forced to win the match if they were to advance to the semi-finals. But the Indian team, which had struggled till the last for victory, embraced defeat and missed out on a chance to reach the semi-finals.
In this position, Mithaliraj, the captain of the Indian women’s team, competed after the match. When asked about his retirement, he said, “We thought we could beat South Africa and advance to the semi-finals. But unexpectedly it did not happen. Failing to qualify for the semifinals has been a huge disappointment for us. I need some time for you to realize what really happened and think about my future. This is not the time to announce my retirement.
I do not plan much about the future. We stand with a lot of emotions. We have been preparing hard for the World Cup for over a year. The players can accept what the future holds for each player and move on from here, ”he said
Julan Goswami, the highest wicket-taker in Women’s World Cup history, did not play in the match due to injury. Commenting on this, Mithaliraj said, “It is a great loss and disappointment for us that Julan Goswami did not play in the last match of the Indian team.”
