RGPH 2024: improvement in the average duration of study for the population aged 25 and over to 6.3 years (Mr. Benmoussa)

During a conference of the High Commission for Planning (HCP) dedicated to the presentation of the detailed results of the RGPH, Mr. Benmoussa specified that this duration of schooling is 7.9 years in urban areas, compared to 3.2 years in rural areas and 7.3 years for men, compared to 5.2 years for women.

By region, he continued, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (7.9 years), Casablanca-Settat (7.5), Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab (7.3) and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (7 ,2) exceed the national average duration.

The High Commissioner for Planning also reported the increase in the proportion of people aged 25 and over with at least secondary school education from 30.2% in 2014 to 39.1% in 2024.

Furthermore, Mr. Benmoussa specified that the national illiteracy rate fell to 24.8% in 2024, with more marked progress in rural areas and among women, noting persistent disparities between regions.

In terms of linguistic expressions, the RGPH 2024 revealed that nearly nine out of ten people (91.9%) use Moroccan Darija and a quarter use the different linguistic expressions of Amazigh (24.8%) with a proportion more higher in rural areas (33.3%) than in urban areas (19.9%), said the High Commissioner for Planning.

As for Hassania, it is used by 0.8% of the population with relatively high rates in the southern provinces, he added.

An operation of strategic scope, the 7th RGPH was carried out in application of the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
