Terrible afternoon in the Rhone. Two young men drowned, on two different sites, in less than two hours. The first victim, a young man whose age has not been disclosed but who would be a minor, was reported missing around 3:40 p.m. in the town of Irigny, report our colleagues from Progress.
Quickly, a huge rescue device was deployed with no less than thirty firefighters. Samu, divers, surface rescuers, canine teams, a civil security helicopter… Despite all these efforts, the body of the young man, who was spotted by a firefighter, could not be brought back to life.
His death was recorded by the Samu doctor, at the scene of the tragedy. Then, still according to our colleagues from the regional daily, around 5:30 p.m., it was on a leisure center in Condrieu that the rescuers were alerted to the disappearance of a 17-year-old young man while he was bathing. This time, divers and firefighters were able to find the victim more quickly.

She was taken care of by the Samu de l’Isère team in an emergency. In the evening, when major storms broke out in the department, we still did not know the young man’s state of health. Nearly 1,500 accidental drownings, including nearly 400 fatalities, had occurred in France in the summer of 2021. It is the leading cause of death by accident in everyday life among people under 25 years of age.
