Father Mohammad Russell hit his baby daughter Jannatul (5) for saying ‘no’ to eat rice. He was not deterred by this, again lifted up and struck. The child fell to the ground and began to writhe. Later the relatives rescued the child and brought it to Dhaka Medical. The child died there on Monday around 3 pm.
The incident took place in Hazaribagh Boubazar area of the capital. The child’s father Mohammad Russell has been arrested by Hazaribagh Police Station.
On Tuesday (April 16), Hazaribagh Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Champa Sultana said that on Monday afternoon, the child’s father Mohammad Russell told the girl that when she asked the girl to eat rice, she would not eat it. Later, the father could not control his anger and hit him first. As a result, the child hit the wall and suffered serious head injuries. The cruel father did not calm down and beat the child again. The child fell to the ground and was writhing. Later the relatives took the child to Dhaka Medical and admitted the doctor at night. While under treatment, the child died at ward number 204 of Dhaka Medical at around 3:30 pm. The body has been kept at Dhaka Medical College Mortuary for post-mortem.
He also said that Russell often tortured his wife and daughter. Yesterday afternoon the child was being fed rice by his mother Nasima. But Jannatul did not want to eat rice. Later father Russell got angry and beat his daughter. Immediately after the incident, neighbors and local people detained Russell and informed the police station.
