Richarlison to Frank: Tottenham Sacking Message

Thomas Frank Sacked as Tottenham Manager Amidst Premier League Struggles

Tottenham Hotspur has relieved Thomas Frank of his duties as manager, effective immediately, following a disappointing run of form that leaves the club precariously positioned in the Premier League. The decision, announced Wednesday morning, comes in the wake of Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United, extending a dismal stretch of only two wins in their last 17 league matches.

The club confirmed the change in a statement, acknowledging Frank’s commitment despite ultimately concluding that a new direction was necessary. “The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” the statement read. Frank was appointed in June 2025, and the club expressed a desire to have provided him with the time to build for the future, but results dictated otherwise.

Players quickly took to social media to express their gratitude for Frank’s leadership. Richarlison posted a simple message on Instagram on Thursday: “Thanks mister for everything!!!” This followed similar sentiments from teammates Pedro Porro, who wrote, “Thank you very much and the best for your career boss! A pleasure,” and Joao Palhinha, who added, “Thank you for everything coach!”

Frank’s departure has prompted reaction from within the footballing community, including former Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou. Speaking on The Overlap podcast this week, Postecoglou described Tottenham as a “curious club,” highlighting the instability created by recent changes. “Having been in that position now twice in the last six months, it’s tough and you know that he can’t be the only issue at the club,” Postecoglou stated. He further emphasized the broader context of upheaval at Tottenham, noting the departure of long-time chairman Daniel Levy and the resulting uncertainty.

Postecoglou suggested that the club’s frequent managerial changes create an environment where success is not guaranteed, even for “world-class managers.” He questioned the club’s objectives, pointing out that their stated goal of “competing on all fronts” has not been realized for a considerable period. “So Thomas is walking in and what’s his objective? What’s the club’s objective?” Postecoglou pondered. He also alluded to the challenges Frank faced inheriting a squad built in a different style, stating, “I built that squad…to play a certain way over the last couple of years and he’s coming in.”

Richarlison, who enjoyed a prolonged period of fitness under Frank – a rarity in his Tottenham career – before a recent hamstring injury, exemplifies the individual impact of the manager’s tenure. However, the team’s overall struggles ultimately proved insurmountable. Currently, Tottenham sits just five points above 18th-placed West Ham United, highlighting the urgency of the situation and the need for a swift and impactful change in leadership.
