TCU Rifle Dominates Season Opener, Secures Victories Over Ohio State and Schreiner University

TCU rifle began the New Year with a resounding statement, achieving a pair of decisive victories against No. 12 Ohio State and Schreiner University on Sunday afternoon. The No. 4 ranked Horned Frogs posted an impressive team score of 4,732, showcasing their strength and precision in both smallbore and air rifle disciplines.

A Near-Perfect Performance from Senior Leader Katie Zaun

The team’s success was largely propelled by a stellar performance from senior Katie Zaun, who delivered a near-flawless day on the range. Zaun achieved an aggregate score of 1,194, missing a mere six shots throughout the entire match. Her smallbore score of 596 matched a career-best previously set earlier this season, and she followed it up with a strong 598 in air rifle.

Frogs Excel in Smallbore Competition

As a team, TCU demonstrated its proficiency in smallbore, registering a score of 2,354. Sophomore Rylie Passmore mirrored Zaun’s success, achieving a career-high score of 592. Contributing to the team total, Mikole Hogan posted a solid 584, while Marissa Fedora rounded out the scoring. Several team members also achieved personal milestones, with Christina Hillinger and Ziva Swick both setting new career-best marks of 589 and 583, respectively.

Dominance Continues in Air Rifle

TCU continued its impressive form in air rifle, concluding with a team score of 2,378. An astounding ten different Horned Frogs achieved scores of 590 or higher, highlighting the depth of talent within the program. While Zaun led the charge, Fedora closely followed with a 597, a performance highlighted by an impressive 54 center shots. Kenzie Kring also contributed a noteworthy 595. Hogan finished with a 594, and Christina Hillinger and Alexandra Rosenlew each shot 593s, further bolstering the team’s overall score.

Looking Ahead: Rematch Against Ohio State

The Horned Frogs will continue their season with a rematch against Ohio State on Monday, January 19. The first smallbore relay is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. CT, promising another exciting display of collegiate rifle competition.
