Friday January 12, during the transfer of power with Rachida Dati, an appointment that no one saw coming, Rima Abdul Malak regretted the ” curse “ which hits the Ministry of Culture, where heads roll every twenty months.
Until the last moment, she had hoped to keep her position, insensitive to the crazy rumors giving as favorites the journalist Claire Chazal or Sabrina Agresti-Roubach, former secretary of state in charge of the city and protégé of Emmanuel Macron. “She does the job and, in a very eruptive sector, where the opportunity to trip over one’s feet is frequent, she has managed to move forward skillfully”, enumerated, confidently, the communicator Gaspard Gantzer, former advisor to François Hollande. A regular at the Elysée was more severe: “She did not do enough to have immunity and political influence, but too much, which took her out of the game.”
Plunged, in December 2023, into the icy waters of a double crisis, the one that the cultural microcosm affectionately calls by its first name, “Rima” saw its political star wither in a few weeks. At odds with the vote on the immigration law, Rima Abdul Malak found herself, with the entire left wing of the government, in a WhatsApp loop called “Values”, initiated by Clément Beaune, then minister delegate in charge transports. However, she refrained from participating in the one-night rebellious dinner, and denied the rumors of resignation in an Instagram post where she nevertheless listed the provisions of the text on immigration which “collide [ses] convictions » and her own family history as a Lebanese woman who fled the civil war. But the damage is done. “The president will be able to recognize those who hold out in the storm”thunders Emmanuel Macron’s entourage.
Millimeter camouflage
One controversy chases the other, with the Depardieu affair. On December 15, a week after the broadcast of an issue of the program “Complément d’investigation”, on France 2, in which we see “the sacred monster of French cinema”indicted for rape, multiplying obscene and misogynistic remarks during a trip to North Korea, Rima Abdul Malak announces on the set of “C’est à vous”, on France 5, that a “disciplinary procedure” will be initiated by the Grand Chancellery of the Legion of Honor against the actor.
