The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, presented, during a visit to the works at the Gentileza Intermodal Terminal (TIG), this Thursday (21), the project Colors of Brazil
, an open-air urban art gallery, the largest in Latin America. The graffiti that already appears in Porto Maravilha will reach the BRT Transbrasil corridor. Along the 26 kilometers of extension, viaducts, terminals and walkways will receive new colors, shapes and meanings inspired by the works of Profeta Gentileza.

For the project, artists living in the places where Transbrasil will pass were mapped. In total, 26 neighborhoods will feature the works of more than 60 artists. The interventions will be carried out in three terminals, 30 viaducts, 300 pillars and 18 stations with walkways. In total, more than 30,000 paint cans and 10,000 spray cans will be used. The kickoff was at the Gentileza Intermodal Terminal, in a 450-meter wall by artist Lucas Cassarotti.

“A Urban art,
The graffiti is inspired by Prophet Gentileza, who gives this new terminal its name. It’s a way of valuing the artists spread across the city and, at the same time, bringing colors, hope and light to the city’s main avenue. And increase people’s sense of belonging. Urban art brings this, taking care of public space. I’m sure that Avenida Brasil, with all this urban art, goes from a deteriorated and degraded place to a place of hope for us to have another look. This is the main objective of this project. It will be a point of transformation in the city’s history”, stated Eduardo Paes.

In partnership with the Special Secretariat for Youth in Rio de Janeiro (JUVRio), the action also includes the social side, with the training of young people from each region who will have their first contact with artistic production in this project. The operational containers used in production will be left as art training schools.

According to the city hall, graffiti guarantees the preservation of stations and terminals, inhibiting graffiti and increasing the population’s engagement with the city’s public transport.

“The idea is to welcome the locals and the people who arrive on Avenida Brasil in Rio de Janeiro with the Colors of Brazil, with the colors that represent our people. And have this issue of urban kindness. Urban art is for everyone because it is on the street. We want to democratize art and bring more colors to people’s lives”, said Andre Bretas, cultural producer responsible for the graffiti
.
