Hybrid cars outpace electric cars in India
In a surprising turn of events, it has been reported that ‘hybrid’ cars are becoming more popular among customers in India than electric cars. According to recent data, in the Indian auto market, there are nearly 16 electric cars and 4 hybrid cars sold.
In the June quarter of the current financial year, a total of 25,200 electric vehicles were sold. However, sales of hybrid vehicles were only 14,400. Subsequently, in the September quarter, 23,900 electric vehicles were sold, while sales of hybrid vehicles increased to 22,000. Sales of hybrid vehicles have outpaced electric cars for the past three months.
During the period from September to November, a total of 21,445 electric vehicles and 24,062 hybrid vehicles have been sold. Industry officials attribute the increasing popularity of hybrid vehicles to their higher mileage compared to petrol vehicles and the separate charging infrastructure they offer, similar to electric cars.
