Recent research has shown that the adverse effects of plastics on humans and animals can have an impact on the overuse of plastics by humans for a variety of uses. In this study, the researchers confirmed the presence of microplastics (microplastics – tiny plastic particles) in human blood. The new study, published in the international journal Environment, was conducted by Vrije UniverSiteit Amsterdam, a research university in the Netherlands.

The researchers tested blood samples from 22 people. It was tested for various types of plastics, including polypropylene, polymethyl methacrylate, polyethylene terephthalate, and polystyrene. Of the 22 people tested, 17 were found to have measurable plastic particles in their blood samples.

“This is definitely a scary thing,” said Dick Vedak, a professor at the university’s Department of Environmental Toxicology, Water Quality and Health. Through this study, it is possible to know how much plastic goes into the body of people as found in the bloodstream. This shows that due to the high use of plastic it is inhaled or ingested. The presence of plastic particles in the human body can cause chronic inflammation. “
