Today (Friday), the singer Rita was a guest on the opposition website “Iran International”, and referred to the riots in Iran, as part of the protest over the killing of Mahsa Amini. “Dear Iranians, I, Rita Yahan-Frooz, stand today by your side, the Iranian people, and especially by my dear sisters, the brave women in Iran, women who, in these days, stand like heroes in the face of bullet fire in order to gain freedom. Today, all women in the world are a ‘faithful shelter.’ A woman, life and freedom,” the singer said on air.

After the condemnations and protests in Tehran: Iran announced the opening of an investigation into the circumstances of Amini’s death

Following the protest over the killing of the young woman: Iran blocked the social networks

The 22-year-old Amini was arrested by the “Morality Police” because she wore a hijab in a “sloppy manner”, and during her arrest she was beaten to death by Revolutionary Guards forces. Due to her death, protests broke out across the country and many citizens went out to participate in them. In the documents circulated on social networks, women are seen removing their hijab and throwing it in the air in front of the security forces, a punishable crime in Iran, while chanting: “Death to the dictator.”

At the University of Tehran, dozens of students demonstrated accompanied by chants: “Woman, life, freedom”. At the same time, throughout the network, women began to record themselves cutting their hair and burning their hijab as a sign of identification with the young woman. According to Islamic law implemented in Iran following the 1979 revolution, women must wear a hijab, and violation of this law can result in a sentence of up to two months in prison. The fine for violating the law may be 50,000 to 500,000 riyals.
