Rob Reiner and Wife Michele Singer Found Dead in Apparent Homicide

A tragic loss has shaken Hollywood as authorities investigate the deaths of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, at their Los Angeles home. The couple was discovered on December 14, 2025, and the case is being treated as an “apparent homicide” by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

The Reiner family released a statement expressing their profound grief. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are devastated by this sudden loss and ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.

Initial reports indicate the couple died from what appeared to be stab wounds, according to the American press. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed to NBC that a man and a woman, approximately 78 and 68 years old, were found deceased inside the residence. While police have not officially confirmed the identities of the victims, a family spokesperson confirmed to CNN the deaths of Reiner and his wife.

Investigation Underway, No Suspects Identified

The LAPD’s homicide department is leading the investigation, but details remain scarce. A senior official stated, “At this time, no further details are available and the investigation continues.” LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton told reporters that no one has been detained and no suspects are currently being questioned. “I won’t confirm whether anyone is being questioned at this time or not. We will try to talk to as many family members as we can,” he added.

A Legacy in Film and Activism

Rob Reiner’s career spanned decades, beginning with his iconic role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the 1970s sitcom All in the Family. He transitioned to directing, achieving critical and commercial success with films like This Is Spinal Tap (1984), a groundbreaking mockumentary, and the beloved romantic comedy Harry and Sally – Made for Each Other (1989), starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan. He also directed Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), Misery (1990), and A Few Good Men (1992).

Beyond his cinematic achievements, Reiner was a committed political activist, advocating for causes such as marriage equality and the ‘First 5’ project in California, which provides early childhood development programs funded by tobacco taxes. Barack Obama highlighted this dedication, stating on social media that “behind all the stories he produced, there was a deep belief in the goodness of people — and a lifelong commitment to taking this belief into action.”

Outpouring of Condolences

The news of Reiner and Singer’s deaths prompted an outpouring of grief from political leaders and fellow artists. California Governor Gavin Newsom wrote on X, “Rob will be remembered for his remarkable filmography and his extraordinary contribution to humanity,” adding that he was “heartbroken by the tragic loss.” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed similar sentiments, stating, “I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of Rob and his wife Michele. I knew Rob and have enormous respect for him.” She further lauded him as “an acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer and committed political activist, he has always used his talents in the service of others.”

Former US President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris also released statements expressing their condolences.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to determine the circumstances surrounding this devastating loss.
