Rob ReinerS Son Arrested Following Apparent Homicide of Director and Wife
A son of acclaimed director Rob Reiner has been arrested and booked on $4 million bail, according to records from the Los angeles Sheriff’s Department, in the wake of his parents’ deaths in what authorities are calling an “apparent homicide.”
The arrest occurred following the discovery of Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, 68, deceased at their home in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood on Sunday. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that its Robbery Homicide Division responded to the scene, but has released limited details regarding the ongoing investigation.
The Reiners, married as 1989, are survived by three children. News of their passing sent shockwaves through Hollywood and beyond,prompting an outpouring of grief from prominent figures.
Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama expressed their heartbreak in a statement released on social media.”Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen,” the former president said. “But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people-and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”
Rob Reiner established himself as a comedic force in the 1970s with his role in the iconic CBS sitcom “All in the Family.” He later transitioned to directing, achieving critical and commercial success with beloved films such as “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…,” and “This is Spinal Tap.”
Authorities have identified the suspect as Matthew Reiner, 32. While the motive remains unclear, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department stated that Matthew Reiner was taken into custody without incident. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working to piece together the events leading up to the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner. The couple was found unresponsive at their home, and paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene.
