‘Los Serrano’ Revival Possible, Star Hints at Brexit-Fueled Return

A potential reboot of the beloved Spanish sitcom Los Serrano is gaining momentum, with star Fran Perea actively pursuing a continuation of the series. The actor revealed the possibility during an interview on Thursday with Roberto Sanchez on the SER Chain program, ‘If it dawns.’

The original series, which captivated audiences with its heartwarming portrayal of family life, concluded in 2008, leaving some storylines unresolved. Now, Perea suggests a return is not only feasible but actively being explored. “We could do something. In fact, I’m trying to move it,” he stated.

Marcos’ Post-Brexit Life and a New Script

Perea also offered a glimpse into the potential future of his character, Marcos. He envisions a return to his roots, albeit with a modern twist. “I suppose he would have returned with Brexit and would be in charge of the tavern,” Perea explained, hinting at a storyline reflecting the political and economic shifts since the show’s original run.

Adding further fuel to the revival speculation, Mikel Lejarza, a collaborator on ‘Si Amanece’ and former director of Globomedia – the production company behind Los Serrano – shared a short script with the program. This script is set 20 years after the events of the original series, taking place in the iconic neighborhood of Santa Justa.

Resolving the Series’ Ambiguous Ending

Lejarza’s script aims to address the controversial ending of Los Serrano, specifically the fate of Diego. According to Lejarza, “Diego’s dream had really been a dream,” offering a definitive resolution to a long-debated plot point.

However, the most significant character evolution appears to be reserved for Diego, portrayed by Antonio Resines. Lejarza revealed a dramatic shift in the character’s personality. “Diego he is becoming obsessed with something and starts saying things like ‘This is not a stew, it is an emotional deconstruction of the chickpea’,” he shared, suggesting a darkly comedic and intellectually driven arc for the character.

The prospect of a Los Serrano revival has ignited excitement among fans, eager to revisit the familiar faces and storylines of this cherished Spanish television classic. While details remain scarce, the active efforts of Perea and the creative input of Lejarza signal a strong possibility of a new chapter for the Serrano family.
