Rockies Look to Secure Series Win Against Reds with Blalock’s Return to the Mound

A narrow victory on Friday has the Colorado Rockies aiming to clinch the series against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday, with all eyes on the pitching matchup. The Rockies (22-72) will be hoping for a stronger performance from their starter than they’ve seen recently, as they face off against a solid Reds team (48-47).

Blalock’s Challenging Road Back to the Big Leagues

Bradley Blalock (0-2, 12.94 ERA) is set to make his first major league start in two months for the Rockies. His previous outing on May 10 was particularly rough, allowing 12 earned runs on 13 hits in just 3 2⁄3 innings against the San Diego Padres, a game the Padres ultimately won 21-0. Since that difficult start, Blalock has struggled in Triple-A, maintaining an 8.75 ERA over 36 innings pitched since May 16.

However, the young pitcher showed signs of improvement in his most recent outing on July 4, limiting opponents to three runs on six hits over five innings. This more recent performance offers a glimmer of hope as he returns to the major league level.

Singer Provides Stability for Cincinnati

Opposing Blalock will be Brady Singer (7-7, 4.32 ERA) of the Cincinnati Reds. The 28-year-old has delivered a reliable season since joining the Reds, accumulating 93 2⁄3 innings pitched across 18 starts. He has recorded 83 strikeouts while walking 39 batters.

While his command has occasionally been inconsistent, Singer has consistently proven to be a dependable presence on the mound. He excelled in June, consistently pitching at least five innings and holding opponents to three runs or fewer in the majority of his starts. His performance has remained adequate in July, most recently allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings against the Miami Marlins on July 7.
