An incredible finish. Spaniard Carlos Rodiguez won the 14th stage of the Tour de France, between Annemasse and Morzine, winning alone on Saturday July 15. Brilliant winner 24 hours after his teammate at Ineso, Michal Kwiatkowski, Carlos Rodriguez signs a first success in the Grand Tour.

The race was also marked by a high intensity duel between the yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard and his rival, the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar. Now ten seconds separate the two men in the general classification.

15 kilometers from the finish, Tadej Pogacar launched a thunderous attack to try to grab the few seconds that separated him from the yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard. The two rivals have long been inseparable this Saturday, scrutinizing each other through furtive glances. The Dane nevertheless managed to control his opponent’s dazzling offensive, maintaining his lead time at ten small seconds. Third in the stage and still in the yellow jersey, Jonas Vingegaard will attack the fifteenth stage, Sunday July 16, between Les Gets and Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc in the hunted position. Tadej Pogacar, second this Saturday, in the role of the hunter. One week from the outcome, the games are far from over between the two favorites.

The abandonment of Bardet

Earlier in the day, the entry into the Alps had previously turned into a massacre with several crashes, a brief neutralization of the race and, above all, a rain of retirements.

The Frenchman Romain Bardet was forced to retire after falling violently in the descent of the Col de Saxel, the first difficulty of this 14th stage. The Auvergne climber, 12th overall at the time of the incident, fell in a curve to the left at kilometer 25. The cyclist was able to get up but was unable to leave afterwards. This is the second retirement in ten participations for the leader of the DSMB team, who was aiming to approach the podium during this 110th edition, he who had already finished second (in 2016) and third (in 2017) in the Grande Loop.
