Traffic Restrictions Around St. Peter’s Square

Pope Leo XIV will celebrate the Angelus in St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, January 4th at noon, triggering significant traffic controls. Parking bans will be in effect starting at midnight, with a full traffic ban beginning at 6:00 AM on Largo del Colonnato, Via di Porta Angelica, and Borgo Pio (between Via di Porta Angelica and Via del Mascherino). Restrictions also extend to via del Mascherino (between Borgo Pio and via dei Corridori), piazza della Città Leonina, via dei Corridori, via Rusticucci, via della Conciliazione, via Pfeiffer, largo degli Alicorni, via Paolo VI, piazza del Sant’Uffizio, vicolo del Campanile, and via Scossacavalli.
Lazio-Napoli Match at the Olimpico
The highly anticipated Lazio-Naples soccer match will take place at the Olimpico stadium on Sunday at 12:30 PM. Vehicles must be cleared from Lungotevere della Vittoria, from Piazzale Maresciallo Giardino to Piazza Monte Grappa, by 8:00 AM on Sunday. Standard traffic and parking restrictions will be in place at the Foro Italico. Public transportation lines 2, 23, 31, 32, 53, 69, 70, 89, 200, 201, 226, 280, 301, 446, 628, 910, 911 and 982 will provide access to the stadium for fans.
Greenery Maintenance in EUR
From January 2nd to January 8th, Viale Europa in EUR, between Viale dell’Arte and Viale Pasteur, will experience parking and stopping bans, a narrowed roadway, and a reduced speed limit of 30 km/h (approximately 19 mph) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. These changes are due to green maintenance work being carried out by the Capitoline Environmental Protection department.
Changes to FL4 and FL6 Train Lines
Travelers using Trenitalia’s regional FL6 (Rome – Cassino – Caserta) and FL4 (Albano, Frascati, and Velletri) lines should be aware of work at Ciampino station from January 3rd to January 6th. Intercity trains 703 and 704, running between Rome and Caserta, will have altered routes, skipping stops in Frosinone, Cassino, and Vairano, and adding stops in Formia and Latina from January 3rd through January 6th. Additionally, Intercity train 710 from Taranto to Rome will arrive at Rome Termini at a changed time on Sunday, January 4th.
