Cristiano Ronaldo misses a goal into an empty net from a few meters away and his team is out of the Asian Champions League. It might seem impossible but that’s what really happened in the match between Al-Nassr and Al-Ain, an Emirati team coached by Hernan Crespo. CR7 and his teammates had to overturn the 1-0 first leg deficit in the Emirates and they actually managed to do so by winning 3-2 in regular time and then 4-3 after extra time but in the penalty shootout it was Al-Ain who prevailed. The sensational error of the Portuguese, who was incredulous after seeing the ball go out, weighs heavily on the 2-2 result.

CR7 redeems himself but it’s not enough
Despite the unusual error for a champion who has scored almost a thousand in his career, it must also be said that Al-Nassr, down 0-2 after 45′, still managed to turn the match around with the 3-2 score from Telles shortly after Cristiano Ronaldo’s missed goal. The Portuguese himself also won and converted the penalty that made it 4-3 in extra time which sent Al-Nassr to the penalty shootout with numerical inferiority. Right from eleven metres, the former Real, Manchester and Juventus player was the only one to convert, while the errors of Brozovic, Telles and Otavio weighed heavily. Crespo’s team thus reaches the semi-final and now awaits another Saudi team, namely the winner between Milinkovic Savic’s Al-Hilal and Benzema’s Al-Hittihad.
