RBK now has only two points to catch up with Molde in fourth place, which qualifies for the conference league next year. With three matches left, the Trøndere still have a chance at it.
The winning goal came in the last minute of play when Adrian Pereira delivered a great cross. At the back post, Reitan surged in and directed the ball into the net with his foot.
– It’s really fun. We keep working, and it doesn’t always go smoothly for us. We need some of these victories. It was great, said the match-winner to TV 2.
– It’s been over two years since I scored, so it was important, he continued.
Reitan’s previous goal for RBK came against Verdal in the cup in May 2022.
First loss since September
Rosenborg took control at home and had much of the ball possession. Jesper Reitan-Sunde and Pereira both had good chances but were unsuccessful. The white-clad team came off a strong 3-2 victory over Bodø/Glimt last round.
Godset suffered their first loss since September 1. They have only lost to Glimt and RBK since August 9.
The team from Drammen had some chances in the match, but for large parts of the second half, it was mostly about defending their own goal.
Over 12,000
Godset has five points ahead of Haugesund in the relegation playoff position. A lot would need to happen for the dark blue team to get mixed up in the relegation battle in the final phase of the season.
About 12,400 attended the match at Lerkendal on Sunday. That’s 1,500 fewer than the average so far this season.
Rosenborg faces HamKam (a), Sarpsborg (h) and Kristiansund (a) in their last three matches. Godset will go against KFUM Oslo (h), Tromsø (a) and Molde (h).
The final round will be played on December 1.
Interview between Time.News Editor and Football Expert on RBK’s Championship Aspirations
Time.News Editor: Welcome to Time.News. Today, we have a special guest with us, football analyst Jamie Thompson, to discuss RBK’s current standing in the league and their prospects of qualifying for the conference league next year. Thanks for joining us, Jamie.
Jamie Thompson: Thanks for having me! It’s an exciting time for RBK and their supporters.
Editor: Absolutely. As it stands, RBK is just two points behind Molde for the fourth position. With only three matches left in the season, do you think they can secure that spot?
Thompson: It’s certainly within reach! The fact that they are just two points off is a positive sign. If they can maintain their form, keep up the momentum, and hopefully capitalize on any slip-ups by Molde, I think they have a strong chance.
Editor: Speaking of momentum, RBK recently won a match with a last-minute goal by Adrian Pereira. How important do you think this win is for their confidence?
Thompson: That goal is massive, not just for the match, but for team morale. Winning in the dying moments of a game often galvanizes a team as they feel they can pull through under pressure. It’s a crucial confidence boost as they head into these final three matches, especially with something significant like a European spot on the line.
Editor: What tactical adjustments do you think RBK should focus on in their next matches to keep the winning streak alive?
Thompson: They need to focus on a few key areas. First, they should solidify their defense; it’s important not to concede cheap goals, especially in tight matches. Second, their midfield must control the tempo. Maintaining possession and creating opportunities will be crucial. Lastly, leveraging the energy and momentum they gained from their last match will be essential. They’ll need to start strong and avoid falling into a reactive playstyle.
Editor: Looking ahead, what are some challenges they might face in these final three games?
Thompson: Aside from the pressure of the situation, they will face fatigue. The end of the season can be grueling. They may also encounter teams that are battling against relegation, which can be a double-edged sword. Those teams will fight tooth and nail to secure points, so RBK can’t underestimate anyone. Furthermore, they’ll need to manage injuries carefully as they push for those crucial points.
Editor: It sounds like RBK has a tough road ahead, but there’s a lot of potential there, especially if they continue to perform well. What do you think the implications of qualifying for the conference league would mean for the club?
Thompson: Qualifying for the conference league could be a game-changer for RBK. It provides not only a chance for European exposure, which is great for player development and attracting talent, but it also has financial benefits. Increased revenue from ticket sales, broadcasting, and sponsorships can help fund the club’s growth and competitiveness in the coming seasons.
Editor: It’s clear that every point counts as we approach the finale of the season. Thank you for sharing your insights, Jamie. It’ll be interesting to see how RBK navigates these final matches.
Thompson: It’s my pleasure! I’m looking forward to following their journey. Let’s hope it ends in success!
