Rouen Lawyer Indicted in Lille Drug trafficking inquiry

A criminal defense attorney from Rouen, France, has been indicted in Lille following four days in police custody, embroiled in a widening investigation into a large-scale drug trafficking operation. The lawyer is accused of not only breaching professional ethics but also actively participating in the criminal network, allegedly providing inside information and assisting with money laundering.

The case has sent shockwaves through the legal community in Rouen, with the attorney’s name dominating conversations at the Palais de Justice. As of Thursday, she has been removed from the online directory of the Rouen bar Association.

Attorney Faces Multiple Charges

After 96 hours in custody at the Rouen judicial police headquarters, the young lawyer, specializing in criminal law, was transferred to Lille early Friday morning. She was then presented to an investigating judge at the JIRS (Interregional Specialized Jurisdiction) and formally charged with six offenses, including criminal association, complicity in drug importation, complicity in transportation, revealing information about an investigation, and money laundering, according to a statement released Saturday morning by the Lille Public Prosecutor’s Office. The attorney has been placed in provisional detention.

Allegations of Collusion with Drug Traffickers

The attorney was initially arrested at her Rouen home in the early hours of Monday, October 6th, and immediately taken into custody, as first reported by Paris-Normandie on tuesday. The prosecutor’s office stated the investigation, opened in March 2025, centers on “an organized network involved in the importation of cannabis from spain to northern France and the metropolitan areas of Rouen and Le Havre.”

The lawyer is suspected of going beyond simply advising members of a drug trafficking network, allegedly informing them about ongoing investigations and potential police surveillance. Moreover, authorities beleive she actively participated in laundering the network’s illicit funds. A search of her home reportedly uncovered €14,000 in cash.

Large-Scale Cannabis Seizures

Seven other individuals, suspected of being traffickers, were also arrested in the Rouen area on October 5th and 6th. They have also been indicted and incarcerated, accused of organizing numerous “go-fast” operations each week between Spain and France. “The interception of the various convoys, composed of high-cylinder vehicles with false license plates and sometiems equipped with hidden compartments, led to seizures of cannabis ranging from 100 to over 400 kilograms,” the Lille prosecutor’s office stated.

Previous Investigation into Professional Secrets

This is not the first time the attorney has faced scrutiny. In July, she was briefly detained for questioning regarding suspected violations of professional secrecy in a separate case also investigated by the JIRS in Lille. She was released following the interrogation. paris-Normandie reported at the time that she allegedly provided information to a detainee, a close associate of rouen-based drug trafficker Mohamed Amra, regarding an investigation into one of his clients – a drug dealer whose interests she was representing at the detainee’s request.

bar Association Initiates Disciplinary Proceedings

The President of the Rouen bar Association, who chairs the Council of the Order of Lawyers, expressed sadness over the news in a statement released Saturday.”Given the nature of the facts for which she was indicted, I will open on Monday… a disciplinary procedure by referring the matter to the Regional Disciplinary Council of Lawyers at the Rouen Court of Appeal,” wrote Me franck Langlois. The attorney, registered with the Order since December 2016,faces potential dismissal.”If the responsibility of the lawyer concerned were to be held, the sanction could go as far as her dismissal,” the President’s statement details. Currently,”at her request, this lawyer has already been omitted by the council of the Order last Thursday,so that she can no longer practice.”

The attorney’s lawyer, contacted by ICI Normandie, has not responded to requests for comment.
