Rowan University and Fairleigh Dickinson University Partner to Address Healthcare Workforce Shortages
A new memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Rowan University and Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) aims to bolster New Jersey’s healthcare workforce through expanded educational opportunities and collaborative programs.
The agreement, signed by officials from both institutions, will focus on creating dual degree programs, articulation agreements, and accelerated pathways for students and professionals seeking careers in the healthcare sector. This initiative comes at a critical time, as the demand for qualified healthcare professionals continues to rise nationwide.
The partnership leverages the strengths of both universities to create a more robust pipeline of talent. According to a statement from Rowan University, the collaboration represents “a bold step forward in transforming healthcare education and innovation across New Jersey.”
FDU’s president echoed this sentiment, stating that the institutions “complement each othre in so many ways,” and that combining their resources will create “unprecedented opportunities for students whilst addressing the critical healthcare workforce needs of our state and region.”
The MoU encompasses four key components designed to streamline and accelerate healthcare education. First, the universities will jointly establish a dual Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine/master of Public Health degree program, offering a thorough approach to medical training. This program will prepare physicians with a broader understanding of population health and preventative medicine.
Additionally, an accelerated 3+4 program will allow qualified FDU premedical students to complete their undergraduate coursework in three years before transitioning to the four-year Rowan-Virtua Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine program. This pathway significantly reduces the time to degree completion for eligible students.
Rowan undergraduate students will also benefit from new 2+4 and 3+3 accelerated pathways leading into FDU’s Doctor of Pharmacy program. These options provide efficient routes for students to pursue advanced pharmacy degrees.
