Brazilian expert Marcus Vinicius de Freitas, a specialist in geopolitics and international relations, has praised the speech delivered by HM King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the Throne Day. He believes it offers a “visionary perspective” to address Morocco’s longstanding water scarcity issues.
“His Majesty the King’s vision regarding water scarcity and its optimal use is clear and relevant,” Freitas stated in a statement to MAP.
Freitas emphasized the crucial role water plays in various activities, particularly in a world grappling with food insecurity. He lauded the Moroccan government’s initiative to connect hydraulic basins for improved water distribution, highlighting its importance in ensuring a consistent supply for both drinking and irrigation.
Furthermore, he lauded Morocco’s development project for seawater desalination stations, calling it highly relevant in light of the resource’s scarcity. He suggested focusing investments on new, dedicated technologies to enhance this crucial project.
Freitas also saw immense potential for cooperation between Morocco and Brazil, two countries with vast coastlines, to revolutionize the desalination industry. He argued that sharing expertise could benefit both nations in optimizing and sustainably managing their water resources.
The Brazilian expert concluded by suggesting that both countries could contribute to the global dialogue on conserving and efficiently managing water resources, particularly in areas where they are abundant or facing increasing scarcity.
