Arkansas State Defeats Missouri State 34-28 in Inaugural Xbox Bowl

Arkansas State secured a 34-28 victory over Missouri State in the first-ever Xbox Bowl on Thursday night, marking their second consecutive bowl win – a feat not achieved since 2013-14. The Red Wolves (7-6) dominated the first half, ultimately holding off a late rally from the Bears (7-6).
The inaugural Xbox Bowl, played in Shreveport, Louisiana, saw Arkansas State jump to an early lead and withstand a furious fourth-quarter comeback attempt by Missouri State. Arkansas state’s victory marks the program’s seventh bowl win overall and their second straight, a program first in nearly a decade. the game showcased offensive firepower from both sides, but ultimately, the Red Wolves’ strong start proved decisive.
Red Wolves Take Early Control
Arkansas State established a commanding lead early in the game, scoring on four consecutive drives.Quarterback Jaylen Raynor connected with Jaylen Bonelli for a 7-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Shortly after, receiver Corey Rucker electrified the crowd with a spectacular 71-yard touchdown reception, capping off a 95-yard drive. Rucker’s performance was notably noteworthy, as he concludes his collegiate career ranked 21st in FBS with 4,111 receiving yards and as Arkansas State’s all-time leader in both receiving yards and touchdowns.
Missouri State responded with a 39-yard reception by Dash luke, narrowing the gap to 14-7. Though, the Red Wolves continued their offensive momentum, extending their lead to 24-7 by halftime with a 4-yard touchdown grab by chauncy Cobb.
Bears Mount Fourth-Quarter Comeback, Fall Short
Despite trailing substantially at the half, Missouri State refused to concede. The Bears mounted a determined comeback in the fourth quarter, fueled by touchdowns from Ramone Green Jr., Luke, and Jmariyae Robinson. However, their efforts proved insufficient to overcome the Red Wolves’ early advantage.
Jacob Clark, the Missouri State quarterback, finished the game with 349 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Dash Luke led all receivers with 169 yards on seven catches. Raynor, for Arkansas State, completed the game with 288 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Arkansas State’s bowl game record now stands at 6-7 since returning to the FBS level in 1992.
