The No.4 seed was largely beaten at the start of the second round of the WTA 1000 in Rome against Paula Badosa (6-1, 6-4).

The Tunisian Ons Jabeur (seeded N.4), finalist of the 2022 edition, lost as soon as she entered the running in the 2nd round of the WTA 1000 in Rome against the Spaniard Paula Badosa (35th in the world), victorious 6- 1, 6-4.

Jabeur returned to competition, just over two weeks before the start of Roland-Garros (May 28-June 11), after a calf tear which forced her to retire in the semi-finals in Stuttgart on April 22. In the process, she had given up defending her title at the WTA 1000 in Madrid.
