RupeLaar Launches Preventive Healthy Lifestyle Projects for 2024 in Boom

This afternoon, RupeLaar launched the preventive Healthy Lifestyle Projects for 2024 in Boom. With these ready-made projects, they want to give all citizens the opportunity to stop smoking, eat healthier, and exercise more.

The local preventive health projects include Halt2Diabetes, Exercise by referral, and Stop Smoking. The launch of these 2024 health projects took place together with the First Line Zone RupeLaar, Vlotter, Logo Mechelen, and the local authorities of RupeLaar: Niel, Hemiksem, Aartselaar, Schelle, Rumst, and Boom.

Inge Hellemans, a representative from RupeLaar, stated, “Within the RupeLaar Primary Care Zone region, we want to help everyone live a healthier life in an accessible way. We want to improve the health of citizens through, among other things, the Halt2Diabetes project.”

The Halt2Diabetes project consists of six group sessions of one and a half hours, where participants will work with a dietician to eat healthier. These group sessions are organized for people with an increased risk of diabetes and are free upon referral from the GP.

Interested parties can attend the free information session on Thursday, January 18 at 7:45 PM in Niel or on Friday, January 19 at 10 AM in Hemiksem. Halt2Diabetes encourages people to calculate their risk of type 2 diabetes based on a few short questions on www.hetgezondheidskompas.be. If the test indicates an increased risk, individuals can substantially reduce that risk by adjusting their lifestyle.

The ELZ RupeLaar also organizes the Healthy Food on Referral sessions and offers the Exercise on Referral program for those looking to exercise more. In addition, a smoking cessation course is available for individuals looking to quit smoking.

Hellemans added, “Do you want to exercise more but you don’t know how? Then Movement Op Referral is something for you. Ask your GP, physiotherapist, or other healthcare professional for a referral letter and contact the exercise coach Kristel Verrydt. The coach will draw up a personal exercise plan together with you.”

For those looking to quit smoking, RupeLaar is organizing a free information session in Boomkewies on Monday, January 15 at 8 p.m., followed by a smoking cessation guidance program consisting of eight group sessions.

Overall, these initiatives aim to help individuals in the RupeLaar region lead healthier lives and make better lifestyle choices. More information and details about each program can be found on the RupeLaar website.]
