RUSAL/COBAD offered a three-classroom school, a fully equipped three-bedroom accommodation and toilets to the Kourawel district, located 13 kilometers from Sangarédi, in the Boké prefecture. The approach aims to support the community in the education of children. The handover took place on December 12, 2023 in the presence of several RUSAL managers, beneficiaries and administrative and local authorities.

The cost of building these infrastructures, entirely financed by RUSAL/COBAD, amounts to more than one billion Guinean francs. “Our company built a primary school with three classrooms. We have equipped everything. Everything is here. I note that all construction work was carried out by a local subcontractor registered with the Sangaredi sub-prefecture. I would like to note that the RUSAL/COBAD company, in the area of its presence, regularly implements social projects. Since the launch of the Dian-Dian Project, the company has put more than 10 drinking water boreholes into operation, provided large-scale financial assistance to local collective farms as well as religious associations, several billion francs Guineans were released for the Support Fund for Local Projects (FODEL). Furthermore, about two years ago, in the Dougoula district (Kamsar prefecture) a 3-class primary school was put into service. The handover by RUSAL/COBAD of all this infrastructure demonstrates once again that RUSAL does not spare funds when it comes to making social investments aimed at improving quality of life, literacy and access to care. medical services of the local population in all regions of the Company’s presence – whether in Conakry, Kindia, Boké or Fria. I would like to note that all of RUSAL’s charitable initiatives and actions always correspond to the social expectations demonstrated by local communities. said Burlaev Victor, Director of Resource Protection at RUSAL/COBAD.

For his part, Mamadou Houdy Bah, mayor of the rural commune of Sangarédi, was delighted with the creation of this school before asking that it be staffed with teachers. “It is a joy for us to come and witness, after six months of the launch of its work, the inauguration of a brand new school including three classrooms, teachers’ accommodation, toilets and a screened courtyard. It is a source of great pride for the Sangarédi municipal council which is responsible for elementary education. We are really happy because the Kourawel district is one of the oldest districts in the Sangarédi sub-prefecture which only has two or three schools. It has a population of more than three thousand inhabitants. So, we have this gem. There are several other villages or hamlets that can bring their children here to study. It’s a sigh of relief. We are really satisfied with this cohabitation between the RUSAL/COBAD company and the neighboring villages. This is eloquent proof of crossing the barrier between communities and RUSAL/COBAD society, of respect for local content, of respect for the societal commitment that RUSAL/COBAD has well observed and which has a positive impact on communities by helping the government. We will request from the prefect, from the prefectural director of education, so that these three classrooms actually have three teachers in its different rooms so that the children who are registered receive the education and instruction that they need. imposed. We are delighted with this work and we make a commitment, we the rural commune of Sangarédi, the district authorities, the women, the young people to maintain this brand new jewel as long as possible, to regularly maintain its premises, and at recruitment of children so that these three classrooms are completely filled for the happiness of their parents,” launched Mamadou Houdy Bah.

For more than 20 years, the RUSAL company has been making its strong contribution to the education sector of the Republic of Guinea. Thus, since 2011, the Company, through its scholarships (“RUSAL SCHOLARSHIP”), has contributed to training highly qualified Guinean specialists in a wide range of professions in Russian higher education establishments, starting with mining and finally medicine. As part of all these training programs, all costs relating to air flights, training, accommodation and payment of scholarships were fully covered by RUSAL. In total RUSAL spent more than 20 billion GNF. The latest of these educational initiatives – the 2022 RUSAL Scholarship – launched in 2022 aims to train qualified personnel in the field of medicine. Thanks to this program, 50 students will have the opportunity to complete their secondary and higher education free of charge at the Krasnoyarsk State Medical University as well as at its affiliated college. During this program, students will have the opportunity to undergo practical training in one of RUSAL’s medical centers, and the best graduates will be offered employment in one of RUSAL’s companies in Guinea.
