A captivating new production of Antonín Dvořák’s lyrical masterpiece, Undine, will grace the stage of the Théâtre de l’Équilibre in Fribourg, Switzerland, from December 28, 2025, to January 4, 2026. A Visionary Artistic Direction
The entire artistic direction for this production rests with Netia Jones, who will oversee the direction, scenography, costume design, and video creations. Jones’ contemporary vision aims to fully immerse audiences in the drama of Undine. According to a company release, this approach promises to “plunge the public into the heart of the drama.”
Musical Leadership and Orchestral Performance
Leading the Friborg Chamber Orchestra (OCF) will be Kaspar Zehnder, though he will be replaced by Bertille Monsellier beginning January 2, 2026. The orchestra will perform Dvořák’s celebrated score, known for its emotional depth and melodic beauty.
Internationally Acclaimed Cast
The production boasts a stellar vocal cast featuring internationally recognized talents. Czech soprano Kateřina Kněžíková will embody the title role of Undine, delivering the iconic “Song to the Moon.” She will be joined by Canadian tenor Zachary Rioux, who will make his role debut as the Prince.
Rounding out the principal cast are:
- Bass Jungrae Noah Kim, a winner of the prestigious Geneva Competition, as Vodník (the Spirit of the waters).
- Soprano Ester Pavlů as the Foreign Princess.
- Mezzo-soprano Aurore Daubrun in the role of the witch Ježibaba.
International Collaboration
This Undine is an ambitious international co-production with the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and the Irish National Opera in Dublin. This collaboration ensures a production of exceptional quality, both musically and visually.
