Moscow: Russia has made a very serious allegation against America, saying that Washington is trying to destabilize India. America is trying to create instability in India during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Russian government-owned news network RT News has reported that Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said this about America in her statement. Maria said that America does not understand the Indian mentality and history and is accusing India about religious freedom without any foundation. This statement from Russia has come at a time when in recent times there have been some reports from America on the situation of democracy, religious freedom and human rights violations in India. In these, an attempt was made to put India in the dock.
Maria Zakharova said, ‘The kind of allegations made by America are insulting to India as a country. There seems to be a motive behind America’s allegations. He wants to unbalance the internal political situation in India and complicate the general elections. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that Washington’s actions are clearly interference in India’s internal affairs, which cannot be supported. Russia also rejected allegations of involvement of an Indian official in a plot to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. Maria said that according to the information we have, Washington has not yet provided any credible evidence of the involvement of Indian citizens in planning the conspiracy to murder Pannu.

Questions raised on India in USCIRF report
The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has recently said in its annual report that the situation of religious freedom in India is not good. USCIRF has criticized India for violating religious freedom and said it has asked its State Department to declare India a ‘country of particular concern’ in this matter. Referring to CAA, the report accuses the ruling BJP of promoting discriminatory policies. The report also expressed concern about monitoring news media and NGOs reporting on religious minorities.
India’s Foreign Ministry has also criticized the US Commission for attempting to interfere in India’s electoral process and campaigning against the country. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal last week said USCIRF was a partisan entity with a political agenda. This is also visible in its annual report. USCIRF’s efforts to interfere in the world’s largest electoral process will not succeed.
