In 2025, about 40,000 students will study at universities in the field of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and by 2030 their number will increase to 180,000, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation expects. About this “RIA Novosti” told in the department’s press office.

“It is planned that about 40,000 students will undergo specialized training related to the field of unmanned aerial systems in universities in 2025, and about 180,000 students in 2030,” the ministry said.

According to the ministry, educational modules within the framework of the federal project “Personnel for unmanned aerial systems” will be developed and updated annually. A single educational and educational space for training specialists in this area has been formed, and universities can develop flexible educational programs in accordance with the demands of the labor market and a particular employer, the Ministry of Education and Science added.

At the end of June, the government approved a strategy for the development of unmanned aircraft until 2030-2035, according to which, within six and a half years, a new branch of the economy should appear in Russia related to the creation and use of civilian drones. According to First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov, in parallel with the development of the strategy, the government is completing the creation of a national project for the development of unmanned aerial systems. According to the estimates given, the volume of the UAV market in the Russian Federation by 2035 may reach more than 1 million UAVs. The greatest potential for their application is in the agricultural sectors, in construction supervision, the creation and updating of geospatial databases and logistics (delivery of goods to hard-to-reach areas).

As a representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade told Vedomosti in March, Russia will need by 2030 approximately 1 million specialists in the development, production and operation of civilian UAVs. Now they are “about 10% of the need” predicted by 2030, i.e. about 100,000 people, he added.

At the end of March, participants in the Russian commercial drone market proposed adding theoretical disciplines and practical training on unmanned aircraft to the school curriculum. As follows from the letter of the Aeronext Association to the Ministry of Transport, the inclusion of drone classes in the basic general education program should help ensure Russia’s personnel sovereignty in the aviation sector.

In May, Vedomosti wrote, with reference to the passport of the federal project “Personnel for Unmanned Aerial Systems” prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science, that for the training of specialists in the development and use of drones in 2024-2030. 57.7 billion rubles will be allocated from the federal budget, of which 5.3 billion rubles. – in 2024
