There have been reports of Russian troops withdrawing from the northern region, including the capital, Kiev. Deputy Defense Minister Ganna Malier announced on Facebook that the cities of Irpin, Bucha, Hostomel and the Kiev region had been liberated from Russian control. Since the beginning of the Russian occupation on February 24, there has been widespread destruction in all three cities. Many civilians were also killed. The mayor said the bodies of 280 people were buried in a pit in Bucha and the streets of the town were littered with dead bodies.
