1,500 to 2,100 euros including food and a bulletproof vest. With offers like this, Russia is looking for people to build defense facilities in Kursk.

In order to defend itself against the attacking Ukrainian troops in the Russian region of Kursk, Russia is urgently looking for workers who can build defensive structures. Russia is using a somewhat unusual medium to recruit: classified ads.

On the Russian platform Avito – comparable to the German Ebay classifieds – several companies have placed job advertisements seeking workers to build defense facilities in the Kursk region.

According to the advertisements, the salary is between 150,000 and 210,000 rubles (equivalent to around 1,533 to 2,147 euros) per month. In comparison, the average monthly income in Russia is around 866 euros.

In addition, the companies offer various benefits such as work clothes, accommodation and food. Some even promise potential employees bulletproof vests at company expense, others that the work is “completely risk-free”. This is contradicted by reports that suggest that the Ukrainian army has repeatedly targeted Russian excavators with drones in order to prevent the digging of trenches in the Kursk region.

Since companies are well aware that despite the above-average salary, they are not making the most attractive offer to potential employees, they do not place great demands on applicants. Previous experience in the construction industry is not a hiring criterion.

They are also flexible when it comes to age, from students to pensioners, everyone is welcome. One company even offers a bonus of around 100 euros if you bring a friend.

The workers will be deployed primarily around the city of Kursk and the nearby nuclear power plant. According to Ukrainian sources, Ukraine controls around 77 villages in the Kursk region in an area of around 1,000 square kilometers.
