Kyiv Embassy in Kyiv urges Indians to leave Ukraine The embassy issued the directive in the wake of assessments that the situation in Kiev could worsen again.

“The Indian people, including students, must leave Kyiv immediately, either by train or any other available facility,” the Indian embassy said on Twitter.

The embassy issued the directive after the United States released satellite footage of a giant Russian convoy moving to Kiev. The U.S. has released a satellite image of a convoy carrying more than 100 tankers, artillery and other munitions.

About 8,000 Indians have so far fled Kyiv, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Arindam Bagchi said. Bagchi added that the process of evacuating Indians from Ukraine would be expedited.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also directed the Indian Air Force to join the mission to rescue Indian students stranded in Ukraine. The Central Government aims to expedite the evacuation by using Air Force C-17 aircraft for the mission. It is reported that the Air Force will also participate in the Ukraine rescue mission from tomorrow, Tuesday.

The rescue operation is currently underway with the help of private airlines flying to the Ukrainian border countries of Romania and Hungary. Ukraine’s airspace has been closed since February 24 following Russia’s military action.
