The Russian warship complied. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a crowd of 13 Border Guard soldiers. Russia later said it had surrendered the remaining 82 troops on the island. Although the island was under Russian control, the last word between the soldiers spread around the world.
President Volodymyr Selensky has announced that he will posthumously confer the title of “Hero of Ukraine” on 13 soldiers who have been killed in what is being called a Russian military coup.
