The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has published a shortlist of nominees for the Oscar. The film by the Russian director Kira Kovalenko “Unclenching his fists”, which was previously included in the long-list in the “Foreign Feature Film” nomination, did not make it to the list of 15 films.
The short list includes films from Austria, Belgium, Bhutan, Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Iran, Italy, Spain, Kosovo, Mexico, Norway, Panama, Finland and Japan. The nominees will be announced on February 8, 2022, with the Oscars scheduled for March 27.
Unclenching Fists premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The film received the main award of the Cannes program “Unusual View”. The plot revolves around the story of a family who lives in a small town in North Ossetia. The youngest daughter, Ada, plans to escape to start an independent life.
