After the IS attack in Moscow, security forces arrested a Russian. He is said to have recruited people in Kazakhstan.
According to police, security forces in Kazakhstan have arrested a Russian citizen who is said to have recruited people for “armed conflicts”. Police and secret service officers arrested the 32-year-old on Thursday at the airport in the megacity of Almaty, the Kazakh police said on Saturday in the Telegram online service. His plane had therefore taken off from Moscow-Vnukovo.
It also said that the man had been wanted internationally since September 2023 for “illegal recruitment of Tajik citizens and stateless persons to take part in armed units, conflicts or military operations in third countries.” According to the police, it is not yet clear whether the man will be extradited.
The arrest came three weeks after the attack on the Crocus City Hill concert hall near Moscow, in which at least 143 people were killed. The Islamic State (IS) jihadist militia claimed responsibility for the attack; according to Russian information, the main suspects are Tajik citizens.
