New Delhi: Russia has prepared 130 buses to evacuate Indians, including students, stranded in Ukraine, a Russian news agency has reported. The news agency quoted the Russian government as saying that the plan was to rescue those trapped in Kharkiv and Sumi via the Bulgarod region. For the past one week, many Indians, including Malayalees, have been stranded in the eastern Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Pisochin Sumi. No action has been taken to return them. India is trying to bring them back with the help of Russia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened a third high-level meeting in the wake of the crisis in the rescue mission in eastern Ukraine. After examining the report of the ministers assigned to the rescue mission, the Prime Minister re-evaluated the possibility of evacuation through Russia. The air force has been instructed to prepare for the rescue mission. According to Air Force sources, a Russian – made IL76 aircraft has been set up for the purpose. The flights will depart as soon as Russia’s permission is obtained.

The government says more than 2,000 Indians are still stranded in Ukraine. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said the rescue operation would not be successful until the conflict ended. The number of people trapped in eastern Ukraine has risen to more than 1,000, according to figures released by the Foreign Ministry today. More buses are being considered to take them to the border. India also requested Ukraine to run special trains. The rescue mission will continue until everyone is evacuated. The setback is the tension. Russia’s and Ukraine have been asked to make a ceasefire, a foreign ministry spokesman said.
