Russian occupiers are increasingly occupied by Ukrainian soldiers who are trying to surrender. It is known that since the beginning of December 2023 there have been at least 15 such facts. But this is only what became known – we are probably talking about hundreds of war crimes of the Russian Federation.

This is evidenced by fresh data from Human Rights Watch (HRW) – the organization called for the possible executions to be investigated as war crimes.

The organization notes that since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, its forces have committed many terrible war crimes.

Belkis Ville, Assistant Director for Crisis and Conflict Affairs, notes that Russians often shoot the wounded and execute them without trial. He also noted that HRW analyzed drone footage that was published on social networks when surrendering Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters were shot by Russian troops. The organization notes that since the fighters were no longer participating in hostilities, according to international humanitarian law, it was impossible to shoot at them. This is a violation of the Geneva Convention and a war crime.

In addition, the UN previously stated that Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russian captivity were subjected to torture, including repeated beatings, electric shocks and mock executions. Some were sexually assaulted.

Ville called on the international community not to turn a blind eye to Russian war crimes and to begin an objective investigation. to punish all those responsible.

Earlier, Kursor wrote that NATO named the conditions for intervention in the war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
