Title: Ukrainian Lieutenant General Warns of Potential Expansion of War as Russia Boosts Weapons Production

Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, responsible for Ukraine’s northern border defense, has issued a stark warning about the potential for the war with Russia to expand beyond the east and south of the country. He told ABC News that if Russia continues to increase weapons production and improve its technology with the help of its allies, the conflict could escalate.

“We are getting ready for that,” Naiev said. “We’re building defenses, putting mines, and training our forces.”

The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been primarily concentrated in the east and south of Ukraine, with cities such as Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts experiencing significant fighting. However, other regions have also been targeted by Russia’s waves of missile and drone strikes.

Naiev emphasized the importance of technological capabilities in the conflict, stating that it outweighs the quantity of munitions each side possesses. He made these observations during ABC’s visit to a training base for Ukraine’s mobile air defense units, which are tasked with detecting and intercepting Russian drones in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

These mobile air defense units have proven to be successful in countering Russian attacks, with the Air Force reporting that they destroyed 40% of Russia’s recent mass strike by 75 drones.

The warning from Lieutenant General Naiev underscores the ongoing tensions and potential for further escalation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. As the situation continues to develop, Ukraine remains vigilant in preparing for potential expansions of the war.
