Athletes with the citizenship of Russia and Belarus will be banned from participating in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games to be held in Paris. This was announced by the International Olympic Committee.

The IOC Executive Council is said to have decided last year that Russian and Belarusian athletes would be allowed to participate in the Games as neutral athletes without an accompanying national flag or anthem. On Tuesday, the committee established a set of rules for neutral athletes.

It was determined that the neutral athletes, which will be Russians and Belarusians, will not participate in the delegation parade at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, as they are individual athletes.

It is also clarified that the decision on the participation of neutral athletes in the closing ceremony will be made later.

Let’s remind that the Olympic Games will take place in July-August 2024. Russia and Belarus will not compete in team sports there. But Belarusian and Russian athletes will perform in individual competitions in a “neutral” status.
