Now the symbol is said to have been immortalized in the landscape in several places in Russia because of the Ukraine war. And of all things with a method that the Nazi regime in Germany also liked to use.

Even trees now form the «Z» symbol to the Ukraine war

The government planted hundreds of trees in the shape of a “Z” in a huge area near Moscow. Such a sign was only recently created in the Bryansk region bordering on Belarus. For this purpose, 650 trees were planted in an area of 10,000 square meters, writes the government-critical news portal “Sota”.

This also quotes a person responsible for the project, the rector of Bryansk University, who writes about the symbol: “This patriotic action was held in support of the actions of the President of Russia, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.” It also honors the soldiers who take part in the “special operation in Ukraine” – that’s what Russia calls the Ukraine war.

Popular practice in the German Empire

Russia probably copied the propaganda method from the Nazis. This is ironic, given that Russia continues to claim that the invasion of Ukraine is for “denazification.”

Because it is by far nothing new to build such signs into the landscape: In the 1930s, trees in the shape of a swastika were planted in several places in the German Reich.

However, the Nazis used larch trees, which change color in autumn to distinguish them from the surrounding pines. This is one of the reasons why the last of these symbols was not discovered until the 1990s on aerial photographs and was finally cut down.
