32.98 lakhs in cash, 1228 grams of gold jewelery and silver items and many important documents were seized in the search conducted at the places related to former minister SB Velumani.
Current Thondamuthur Legislative Assembly Member and former Rural Development Minister S.P. Velumani, during the period from 2015 to 2018, when he served as Minister, committed massive malpractice in the contracts for the project of converting the existing street lights in rural areas to LED lights in the Rural Development Department, and therefore awarded contract work to the companies close to him against the government rules. It was alleged that the government suffered a loss of around Rs.500 crore.
Further, based on detailed investigation on the complaint of corruption, the Anti-Corruption and Vigilance Headquarters Crime No.05/2022 has been booked against former Minister S.P. Velumani and 9 individuals/companies and others under the Corruption Act 2018.
In order to seize the documents related to the corruption case, searches were conducted today at 9 places in Chennai, 4 places in Coimbatore, 2 places in Trichy, 3 places in Thiruvallur and Chengalpattil Dawa, and a total of 31 places belonging to SP Velumani and places related to him.
During the said raid, Rs 32.98 lakh cash, 1228 grams of gold jewellery, 948 grams of silver articles and 10 four-wheelers were found. Also 316 documents related to this case and 2 bank vault keys have been seized.
