SA vs IND: ODI series against South Africa; KL Rahul will lead the team while Rithuraj and Venkatesh will be in the team

Mumbai: KL Rahul will lead the Indian team in the ODI series against South Africa (SAvIND). Rohit Sharma is out with an injury. Jasprit Bumrah is the vice captain of the team. Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan has been recalled to the team. Venkatesh Iyer and Rituraj Gaikwad have also been included in the ODI squad.

Rohit missed the Test series due to injury. The player, who is currently in care at the National Cricket Academy, has not fully recovered. It was in this context that Rahul was made captain. Former captain Virat Kohli is also in the squad. Rituraj and Venkatesh’s performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy helped them.

The 18-member team has six pacers. R Ashwin won all three spinners in the team. Ashwin returns to ODI team after four years His last ODI was against the West Indies in 2017. Ravindra Jadeja has also not been considered for the team. Washington Sunder joined the team instead.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya has been replaced by Venkatesh. Ishant Kishan and Rishabh Pant are the wicket keepers. Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer retained their places in the team.
