Sewanee’s Jonah Kearns Named Southern Athletic Association Athlete of the Week in Diving

A remarkable collegiate debut has earned Sewanee freshman Jonah Kearns the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Athlete of the Week honor for week three of the season. Kearns’ performance at the Moultrie Diving Invite propelled him to the top of the SAA diving rankings and signaled a promising start to his collegiate career.

Impressive Debut at Moultrie Diving Invite

Kearns, a freshman hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, immediately made an impact at the Moultrie Diving Invite. He secured three third-place finishes, leading the Sewanee Tigers to a second-place overall finish on the men’s side. His scores demonstrated both consistency and technical skill.

Specifically, Kearns recorded a 369.10 in the challenging 11-dive 1-meter event. He also achieved a 221.20 in the six-dive 1-meter competition and a 214.20 on the 3-meter board. His dives were highlighted by a 46.80 on his final attempt from the 3-meter and a 42.00 on an inward 1½ somersault pike from the 1-meter.
