Sabalenka Powers to Brisbane International Final, Kostyuk and Medvedev Also Advance

A dominant performance from Aryna Sabalenka has secured her place in the Brisbane International final for the third consecutive year, setting the stage for a compelling championship match on Sunday. The Belarusian star defeated Karolina Muchová 6-3, 6-4 in Saturday’s semifinal at Pat Rafter Arena.

Sabalenka Overcomes Late Challenge to Reach Final

Sabalenka clinched the victory on her fourth match point, despite a late surge of pressure from Muchová. Although three match points initially slipped away, the top-ranked player ultimately prevailed when a shot from her opponent sailed long. “I always try to stay in the present,” Sabalenka said. “I worked really hard and each match against her is just another opportunity to get the win, and I’m super happy that today was the day when I was able to get the win. She is such a great player, and I always enjoy battles against her.”

The semifinal win was built on a strong offensive showing, with Sabalenka registering 32 winners and successfully saving all four break points she faced. She will now compete in her 13th WTA 500-level final.

Kostyuk Continues Upset Run, Faces Sabalenka

Marta Kostyuk will be Sabalenka’s opponent in the final after a stunning 6-0, 6-3 victory over fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula. This marks Kostyuk’s third consecutive win against a top-10 opponent, a remarkable turnaround for a player who had previously only secured one win in five prior matches against Pegula.

Men’s Semifinals See All-American Clash and Medvedev’s Dominance

The men’s tournament also saw semifinal action, with Brandon Nakashima emerging victorious in an all-American matchup against Aleksandar Kovacevic, winning 7-6 (4), 6-4. Nakashima will face top-seeded Daniil Medvedev in the final, after Medvedev dispatched American Alex Michelsen 6-4, 6-2.

Medvedev, a former No. 1-ranked player, is seeking his 22nd career title, while this final represents a significant milestone for Nakashima, his first ATP Tour final appearance in four years. The 24-year-old American has impressively navigated the tournament without dropping a single set. “We’re really good friends,” Nakashima said of Kovacevic. “We have been practicing a lot the last month or so, and it’s great to see him playing well at these kind of tournaments. It was a super tough match, right from the beginning.”
