In the square of Agios Anargyro, a 49-year-old man was arrested for the manufacture and possession of explosives and incendiary materials. According to police sources, two launchers with 16 firecrackers were found in his possession.
In the same area, on Parnithos Street, two 21-year-old persons were arrested for “manufacturing and possession of explosives – incendiary materials”” and for the “Law on Addictive Substances and other Provisions”
For another year there was no lack of serious injuries, with cases of amputation after being taken to the hospital.
Five mutilations by bengals were recorded in Attica, one in Chania and one more in Fournos.
In one case, the victim is a 14-year-old boy. The teenager was in the courtyard of the church of Agios Nikolaos, in Galata, Chania, when a firecracker exploded in his hand. He was immediately taken to the Chania hospital, where he underwent surgery and, according to information, suffered the amputation of three fingers on his right hand.
A case was filed against his mother for neglecting the supervision of a minor.
A 35-year-old man from Fournos who suffered a finger amputation from firecrackers was taken to Ikaria. The weather conditions were unfavorable.
In Athens in the last 24 hours, five incidents were recorded, with the most serious in Kalyvia before the Resurrection which resulted in the amputation of a man’s fingers.
Dozens of arrests
According to police, more than 180,000 flares and firecrackers of all types have been seized across the country since mid-April and 102 people have been arrested.
For example, three people were arrested yesterday for violations of the legislation on flares and fireworks in Arcadia and Corinthia and, among other things, more than 1,400 firecrackers were seized.
In Rethymno, a person was arrested, in whose business around 2,800 firecrackers were found and confiscated.
