Sales of new cars in Russia fell by 61.6% in November

In November, sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) in Russia amounted to 46,403 units, which is 61.6% less than in November 2021, according to the website of the Association of European Businesses (AEB).

Compared to October, when monthly auto sales fell for the first time since May, this figure rose again – by 2.6%.

The domestic AvtoVAZ remains the leader in sales, having sold 21,726 Lada cars (-18% compared to November 2021). This is the maximum indicator of the automaker since the beginning of the year. In total, since the beginning of 2022, the company has sold 164,636 vehicles (-49% compared to 2021).

Sales increased at the Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corporation (DFM), which sold 156 cars (+123%), as well as at the Chinese automaker FAW (199 cars in November, +23%). The sales of Mitsubishi (13 vehicles vs. 3023 in November 2021) and Lexus (2 vehicles vs. 908 in November 2021) fell the most.

The AEB statistics do not include sales figures for Mercedes, BMW and Chery as they do not disclose monthly sales figures.

Against the backdrop of the start of a special operation in Ukraine, some foreign car manufacturers announced the cessation of supplies to Russia, some companies also suspended the work of factories in the country. In particular, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Infiniti, Hyundai, Nissan, Mazda, Toyota and others left the Russian market. Later, the Ministry of Industry and Trade included a number of automotive brands in the list of goods for parallel import, including BMW, Toyota, Land Rover, Jaguar and Rolls Royce.

Earlier, AvtoVAZ reported that sales in November increased by 13.5% compared to the previous month. Granta and Niva Legend models were in the greatest demand. In particular, their sales increased by 80% and by 132.6%, respectively, compared to November last year.
