Sales of used passenger cars up 27% in the first half of the year

In the first half of 2023, Russians bought 2.75 million used cars, which is 27% more than in the same period last year, according to the Avtostat analytical agency.

All brands included in the top ten in the first half of the year showed a positive trend. Honda has the highest growth (55%), AvtoVAZ has the lowest (9%). Nevertheless, Lada’s sales volume in the secondary market is incomparable with foreign brands. Over the past six months, 594,586 cars of the domestic brand were purchased. Japanese in second place Toyota – 325,658 vehicles (+37.5%), followed by Korean Kia with 155,982 vehicles (+39%) in third place Hyundai – 154,956 cars (+32%), and Japanese Nissan closes the top five: 144,211 cars, an increase of 28%.

In June 2023, Russians bought 501,888 used cars, according to Avtostat data. This is 42% more than in the same month last year. Almost half of this amount falls on the same five brands that are in the lead according to the results of the entire six months.

At the same time, Ford Focus became the most popular used car in June. Its sales increased by 42% to 10,631 cars. The second place is taken by Lada 2114 with the result of 9817 cars sold (+12%), followed by Hyundai Solaris (9717) and Kia Rio (9621) – both models grew by 23%, and rounded out the top five in terms of models Toyota Corolla. The Japanese bestseller sold 9,246 vehicles in the secondary market in June, up 49% from June last year.
